ST.
ANDREWS OLD COURSE

St. Andrews, Swilcan Bridge, Scotland
The painting of the 800 year old bridge over the Swilcan Burn on the Old Course, St. Andrews.
The Old Course at St. Andrews is the most famous golf
course in the world, and has been recognized the world
over as the home of the game. Golf has been played on St.
Andrews links since the 15th century, with the Royal and
Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews being formed in 1754.
A visit to play the Old Course is something special to
every golfer. The course is the classic links course of
nine holes out and nine back with wide fairways and large
double greens. It's seemingly forgiving nature is a
disguise; in actuality, it presents a unique test of golf
that has given St. Andrews it's formidable reputation.
St. Andrews has hosted 25 Open Championships, 15
British Amateur Championships and many other major,
professional and amateur events. It will once again be in
the spotlight when it hosts the 2000 Open.
