CLASSIC GOLF & LEISURE GOLF COURSE INFORMATION
IRELAND

Ireland West:

Ballybunion Old Course
Consistently ranked as one of the world’s top ten courses, the Ballybunion Old Course features a graveyard by the first tee. Some say this is a warning to golfers who breeze through the first five holes only to come face-to-face with the everchallenging 6th, fiendish 8th, the par four 11th and the devilishly tricky 15th.

Ballybunion Cashen Course
The Cashen course offers a succession of formidable par fives and breathtaking beauty, and it amply qualifies as one of the world’s masterpieces. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, he has stated, “There is no more natural golf hole in the world, an outrageously beautiful stretch of God-given terrain.”

Waterville
With panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and Kerry Mountains, Waterville's pleasant but lengthy 18 holes give you the opportunity to use every club in your bag and must rate as one of the longest in Europe. But, quite apart from the obvious challenge associated with this feature, the fact that it is snuggled between the mountains and the sea in the beautiful Ring of Kerry goes a long way to making a round of golf at Waterville a truly unforgettable experience.

Tralee
Tralee is a magnificent links course which was Arnold Palmer’s first Irish creation. Tralee, hardened by the relentless pounding of the sea, shows no mercy to the golfer lacking in courage.

Doonbeg Golf Club
Set in a remote, yet exquisite location, amidst Ireland's glorious cattle farm country, Doonbeg features soaring dunes rising nearly one hundred feet above a white-capped shoreline. According to Greg Norman, the course architect, Doonbeg is "a magic piece of property- - - perhaps the best piece of land available in the world today".

Old Head Golf Links
Ideally located on the south coast of Ireland, Old Head Golf Links rises high above dramatic cliffs and is surrounded on all sides by the ocean. Commanding spectacular views, this course was designed by Ireland's great golf heroes combined with international design experts, and includes 9 holes played along cliff tops which will provide an exhilarating test of golf and concentration for players of all levels.

Killarney - Killeen
The Killeen was the site of the 1991 Irish Open Championship. Tony Jacklin said, “Killarney is one of those rare golf courses on which great golf and real visual splendour combine to provide an unforgettable experience.”

Killarney - Mahony’s Point
Mahony’s Point hosted the 1996 Curtis Cup. The beautiful park-like setting and thickly wooded grounds were orginally made available by Lord Castlerosse, an avid golfer who also professsed a passion for horticulture.

Lahinch
Frequently referred to as the St. Andrews of Ireland, Lahinch looks out on the ever changing Atlantic Ocean and is the subject of all her mood swings. The original layout for the course was the brainchild of Old Tom Morris in 1892, making it one of the oldest courses in Ireland.

Adare Golf Club
An 18-hole championship course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the Adare Golf Club possesses an exquisite parkland atmosphere, magnificent mature trees and three lakes, including a 14-acre lake anchoring the front nine. The Maigue River meanders through the back nine and creates a sense of beauty and challenge.

Ireland East:

K-Club - Palmer Course
Designed by Arnold Palmer and opened for play in July 1991, the K-Club is a 7,100 yard, par-72 layout featuring over 20 acres of lakes and streams. Instead of one signature hole, Palmer leaves his mark with a host of potential card wreckers, which look as though they have been beamed straight from the US majors.

K-Club - Smurfit Course
The best way to describe the Smurfit Course at The K-Club is that of an inland links; however, its true attributes do not stop there. The course has many dramatic landscapes with dune-type mounding throughout.

Portmarnock Golf Club
To be exact, the course of Portmarnock lies in, rather than on, the Irish Sea. It covers a peninsula which is surrounded by the sea on three sides. Portmarnock, for many years home of the Irish Open and host of the Walker cup in 1991, is considered one of the most difficult, but fair, courses.

Portmarnock Golf Links
With its views and splendid credentials, the Portmarnock Golf Links has everything a golfer could wish for and all the necessary ingredients for the links purist. It is the only PGA European Tour Golf Course in Ireland, providing the discerning golfer with what must be the ultimate golfing experience.

Royal Dublin
The oldest club in the Republic of Ireland, Royal Dublin boasts a traditional links which has been the venue for many major events, including the Irish Open Championships won by Severiano Ballesteros (1983 and 1985) and Bernhard Langer (1984). Royal Dublin is a formidable challenge where the wind changes the entire personality of the course from one day to the next.

Island Golf Club
One of the best in Ireland, the Island Course is situated on the north side of Dublin, The course is 6,700 yards with a par of 72. The best known and loved hole is the "Andes", a par 3 of 210 yards which often requires a wood to clear a sandhill, after which the expectation is that your ball will run down to the delightfully shaped green in the hollow.Ireland East (Cont’d):Royal County Down In a glorious setting in the shadow of the mountains of Mourne lies the magnificent links of the Royal County Down. Rated by many as one of the most difficult golf courses in the world, it is nonetheless a serenely beautiful place to play golf.

European Golf Club
The links of The European Club present a stunning golf and visual experience as it tumbles through almost 200 acres of glorious sand dunes and runs along the beach of Ireland's lovely East coast, just south of Dublin. Opened in 1992, the European Golf Club has already gained recognition as one of Ireland's six greatest golf courses.

Druids Glen
Located on the Woodstock estate, near Newtownmountkennedy in County Wicklow, Druids Glen opened in July 1995 and is quickly becoming acknowledged as one of the most challenging, yet scenically delightful layouts, in these islands. There are many "feature" holes at Druids Glen, but the 18th will stand out for most, dominated as it is by a stunningly created waterfall.

Baltray
This 18-hole course presents great challenges and is situated in an area of great beauty. Although one could use many superlatives to describe the County Louth course, there is nothing pretentious about this course. Only the sport itself counts here.
